Working with us
What services does Thielen Tax & Accounting offer?
We offer tax preparation and planning, accounting and bookkeeping, payroll services, QuickBooks setup and support, and farm and agricultural accounting for small businesses, farmers, and individuals.
Is Dawn Thielen a licensed CPA?
Yes. Dawn M. Thielen is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Master of Accountancy (MAcc). All client work is handled personally by a credentialed CPA — not passed to seasonal staff.
How do I get started as a new client?
Call 712-659-2182 or stop by 705 Arizona St in Glidden. We'll review your prior return or books, explain what we recommend, and quote the work before we begin.
Are you available outside of tax season?
Yes — we're a year-round firm. Bookkeeping, payroll, tax planning, and IRS notice help continue all year, not just January through April.
Taxes
Do you prepare farm tax returns?
Yes, farm returns are a specialty: Schedule F preparation, farm income averaging, equipment depreciation and Section 179 planning, commodity income, crop insurance proceeds, and government program payments. See Farm & Ag Accounting.
What tax forms do you prepare?
Federal and Iowa returns, including individual returns (Form 1040), farm returns (Schedule F), self-employment and small business returns (Schedule C), partnership returns (Form 1065), and S corporation returns (Form 1120-S), along with the related schedules.
What should I bring to my tax appointment?
Bring the following:
- Photo ID and Social Security numbers for everyone on the return
- All income documents: W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, farm sales records
- Expense records and receipts (or your bookkeeping file)
- Last year's tax return if you're a new client
- Any letters from the IRS or Iowa Department of Revenue
Can you help if I get a letter from the IRS?
Yes. Bring it in as soon as it arrives — most notices are resolved quickly when handled promptly. We'll explain what it means and respond to the IRS or the Iowa Department of Revenue on your behalf where appropriate. Don't ignore it; deadlines matter.
Bookkeeping, payroll & QuickBooks
Do you offer payroll for small businesses?
Yes — complete payroll for small employers: paycheck calculations, federal and Iowa withholding deposits, quarterly filings (Form 941, Iowa unemployment), and year-end W-2s and 1099s. See Payroll Services.
Can you fix my messy QuickBooks file?
Yes. QuickBooks cleanup is one of our most common projects. We reconcile accounts, correct the chart of accounts, fix miscategorized transactions, and train you so the file stays clean going forward.
